The 2017 Texas Open will be a 16-team tournament that utilizes the Fast Plastic-patented “Triple Shoot” format. This format was introduced in the 2008 Fast Plastic National Championship Tournament (“NCT”) and proved so popular it was brought back for the 2009 NCT. The tournament begins as a standard knockout style tournament. The two teams in the sixteen team field that do not suffer a loss in this round (record of 3-0) automatically advance to the “Final 8” single elimination playoff round and receive the top two seeds in that playoff. The three teams that earn three wins before their second loss (3-1) will receive seeds three through five in the playoff round. Lastly, the three teams that pick up three wins before suffering three losses (3-2) will receive seeds six through eight. This exciting format – with forty games in all – rewards teams for early tournament dominance while providing ample opportunity for resourceful teams to recover for an early stumble (or two).
